The Old Town of Bern is an architectural jewel – an urban treasure awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1983.

Practically car-free with historic building façades, appealing boutiques, restaurants and cafés, it lends something altogether rare nowadays: a slower-paced, relaxed lifestyle. Six kilometers of arcades line the shopping streets of the Old Town, more than 27 museums guarantee a healthy cultural scene, and numerous national and international events ensure that there is a lot going on the whole year round.

The way in which the green town blends into the surrounding region is unique. Where else can you swim around the Houses of Parliament or row past the city zoo in a rubber dinghy?

Bern’s local mountain, the Gurten, is reachable in only 20 minutes from the city center and offers fantastic views across the Alps and the Bern region. All those beautiful places that seem to be so far away are accessible as pleasant day trips.

Thanks to its central location, Bern is the ideal base to discover the whole of Switzerland: The Emmental region, Bernese Oberland with Interlaken and the Jungfraujoch, Lake Geneva region, central Switzerland and Valais can all be reached in half-day and day excursions.

Bern is a traffic junction with perfect air, road and rail connection and with its own airport (only 11 km away) as well as connections to the TGV, ICE and Italian high-speed trains.
